With more than 14,000 employees, 40 countries, and 123 subsidiaries and joint ventures, the company relies on a central IT team in Munich supported by local colleagues in India, Singapore, Canada, and numerous production sites around the world. GLPI, together with GLPI Network services, supports the security work carried out across these offices.

The challenge

Karsten Fischer, IT technician at G+D for 25 years and responsible for monitoring among other tasks, first managed the company's IT assets with an internal database. It was difficult to maintain and extend, and it couldn't keep pace with a structure spanning a central IT department, local teams on several continents, and a large number of production sites.

The solution

Fischer found GLPI and installed it, and it worked for his needs from the start. Two aspects of GLPI stood out for him: the database model and the plugin structure, which let him extend the tool to fit G+D's specific requirements. This flexibility was the main reason the team has kept using GLPI for many years. Monitoring is now automated directly out of GLPI: instead of checking systems manually, Fischer receives an email whenever something changes on a machine, and resolves it with a click. GLPI is also used for reporting, process control, and update control across the organization. The deployment is supported by Blueteam GmbH, Teclib's Silver partner in Germany.

The results

Monitoring time dropped from close to 50% of Fischer's working time to less than 5%, a reduction of around 45 percentage points

Manual checks across the company's machines have been replaced by automated alerts

Reporting, process control, and update control are all centralized in GLPI

In their words

"The quality of the answers is really good. So that's all we want."
— Karsten Fischer, IT technician, Giesecke+Devrient

Fischer also highlighted the value of the support GLPI Network provides: "GLPI Network Services is a game changer when in need of editor's support."

Looking ahead

G+D continues to rely on GLPI Network Cloud, with Blueteam GmbH as its Silver partner in Germany, to support its security and production sites across the 40 countries where the company operates.

Assista a este vídeo no YouTube

Giesecke+Devrient (G+D), headquartered in Munich, designs security technologies used in banknote counting machines, passports, and other security products worldwide.
